In addition to cross-country trails at both mountains, Nordic ski enthusiasts can enjoy classic and skate skiing at local areas or explore the 300-mile Catamount Trail, billed as North America’s longest cross-country ski trail. Many area cross-country centers also offer snowshoe routes, and nearly all of the Western Slopes of Northern Vermont hiking trails are as beautiful under a blanket of snow as they are in warmer weather.
For a thrilling and gorgeous snowmobile ride, consult the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. The non-profit network of snowmobile clubs maintains an extensive network of trails throughout the state, including the Western Slopes of Northern Vermont.
And for the kid in all of us, there are great sledding hills to be discovered (including a prime spot right by the Old Round Church in Richmond and the slopes on the Monitor Barn campus), and the area is abundant with frozen ponds for skating and ice fishing, like Gillette Pond in Huntington.
