Specializing in Pastel Portraits of people, pets and horses.
Christine came to her career in a natural way. Her father, Mitch Billis, started painting when she was a girl, and she grew up with the influence of a career artist at home. Time spent in her dad’s studio planted the seed for a lifelong appreciation of fine art, and through the years Chris has progressed with many different media and subject matters.
In 1986, Christine’s artistic abilities focused when she met pastel portrait artist Abbie Williams, formerly of East Boothbay, Maine. “She took me into her studio,” says Chris, “and taught me what she knew about portraiture.” Chris readily grasped the concepts of color, value, and form, and she found herself in a stimulating occupation, working every day with her mentor’s help. She’s been doing portraits for a living ever since.
Places of study include the Art Students’ League in New York City and Scottsdale Artists’ School in Arizona.
The artist lives with her husband and two children in rural Vermont.
